Apple adopted HEIC to solve the problem of high-resolution cameras filling up device storage. By using the HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) standard for still images, iPhones can capture better dynamic range and more color detail while maintaining a small footprint. However, because it is a relatively new format, it is not yet universally supported by all software and social media platforms.
Most "HEIC to JPG" websites require you to upload your personal photos to their cloud servers. This exposes your private data to potential leaks or storage on their disks.
