This tool reads the selected WebP file, decodes it into pixel data with the browser's Canvas API, then re-encodes those pixels as PNG through the browser's built-in encoder โ from file selection to a downloadable PNG file in the same tab, without a server-side upload endpoint for this processing flow. The PNG output is always lossless; the quality slider does not apply.
Because this is browser-native, encoder speed and exact output byte size vary between Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, though the resulting pixels are visually identical across browsers since PNG has no lossy step.

PNG has some of the widest compatibility of any lossless image format: browsers, image editors, operating systems, and most desktop-publishing and print workflows accept it without exception. WebP is supported in current browsers, but some design tools, older content-management systems, and print pipelines still expect PNG or JPEG instead.

PNG is a lossless output format, so the quality dropdown does not apply once PNG is selected. Converting a WebP file to PNG cannot recover anything the source already lost: if the WebP was saved with lossy compression, that loss is already permanent, and the PNG output simply repackages those same pixels losslessly from that point onward โ typically at a noticeably larger file size than the WebP source.
The practical reason to convert WebP to PNG is compatibility rather than quality: some editing software, older upload forms, and print workflows do not accept WebP. The alpha channel carries over correctly, since PNG supports transparency the same way WebP does.
Expect the PNG output to be larger than the source WebP file, sometimes substantially so for photographic images, because PNG's lossless compression is less efficient than WebP's lossy or lossless modes for photo-like content. This affects download and storage size rather than conversion speed: decode memory in the browser depends on pixel dimensions, roughly 48 MB per 12-megapixel image, not on the source or output file size.
For large batches of photographic WebP files, plan for noticeably bigger downloads. Keep batches to about 50 images on desktop and 10 to 20 on mobile, and use the ZIP download for the full set.
